| Dear colleagues and members of APHS
It is a great honor and privilege to take this opportunity to invite and welcome all of you to the first spring meeting of our society.
The 1st International GCC Hernia Surgery Congress that will be held in Dubai from April 28th to 30th 2010 will be an occasion for all the surgeons interested in abdominal wall and hernia surgery to get together and exchange knowledge among them and with worldwide experts.
APHS boosts more than 800 members from 16 Asia-Pacific countries and to bring together all the members to share experience, idea and friendship is one of the missions of our society; this is mainly to keep surgeon’ members from our region abreast with new surgical techniques and development like biomaterials up to the latest bio-absorbable meshes. These have completely changed our practice with new and different options for the abdominal wall surgery and at the end with a great benefit for the patients. We should remember that hernia repair is one of the most common procedures in our daily practice and hernia management and treatment is where a surgeon ought to be comfortable.
There is no one mesh or one simple technique for hernia repair but the cure of hernia depends on several factors including patient, surgical technique and experience, and biomaterials available.
I am thankful to all the members of the organizing committee of this 1st International GCC Hernia Surgery Congress and in particular to president and my good friend Rolf Hartung for the great effort in making this conference a landmark event. I am sure that all delegates will appreciate the effort that has been put on for organizing this conference both scientifically and socially.
I welcome all of you in Dubai and I wish this congress a great success.
With Best Regards

President of Asia-Pacific Hernia Society |
